Critically injured in a shooting that left him unableto work, Roger Keyserling turned to eBay

Roger Keyserling knows he’s lucky to be alive. The American was shot in the neck while someone tried to steal his car. He died three times on the operating table.

Thankfully, medics brought him back from the brink. But while he recovered from his horrific injuries, he was unable to work, so turned to eBay – and never looked back.

Today, Roger, from Missouri, USA, lives and breathes selling. His eBay store, KeyWebCo, which sells items that range from toys to home accessories, always puts the customer first. His dedication means that no matter what time of day or night he gets an eBay alert on his phone, he responds instantly.

He said: “When I hear that noise, it doesn’t matter how fast asleep I am, my brain is automatically awake and I answer that buyer’s question. That’s when you make the sale.

“I believe in taking care of buyers straight away. When they get that instant customer service, they’re more likely to say, ‘Well, let’s try them again’.”

Roger believes this immediate customer service has led to his success as a Top Rated Seller.

But after his own near-death experience, he believes in helping others too, and regularly offers advice and tips to others starting out on the eBay journey. His mantra? “Pay it forward.”

ROGER'S 5 TIPS FOR EBAY NEWBIES
1. Don’t be random
Listing items in specific categories makes it easier for buyers to find them.“That way you can sell the napkin rings as well as the napkins.”

2. Keep social media professional
Set up a specific eBay social account, keeping your personal life separate. “If I’d have done social media right, I’d have two Anchor Stores by now!”

3. Use a labelling system
Keeping your inventory organized makes it easier to find and ship quickly. “If I’d have started with a system, my inventory would have been way easier.”

4. Use eBay promotions
Special offers and discounts are a great way to entice buyers. “When eBay started offering promotional tools, it was like a light coming on in a dark closet.”

5. Work with other sellers
Collaborating with other sellers is an invaluable way to swap ideas and cross-promote items. “The best results come from working together.”
